10-second tip: Chase Ink card bonus increased to 60K!

There’s been a lot of excitement about the Chase Ink cards recently, due to the fact that you can currently purchase $200 Visa gift cards online at Staples. The idea is that if you:

  1. Register your card at Visa Savings Edge (if it’s a Visa card, of course) for 1% cash back.
  2. Go through a shopping portal to earn a rebate (Swagbucks is currently offering 6x rewards for shopping at Staples, or you could try Ultimate Rewards, AAdvantage eShopping, Ebates, MileagePlus Shopping, ShopDiscover, TopCashBack…)
  3. Use a card that earns a category bonus at office supply stores such as the Ink card, which offers 5x points in this category

For each $200 Visa card you purchase, you can earn:

  • $2 from Visa Savings Edge
  • 1,200 Swagbucks (equal to $12 in Paypal credit), or the rebate of your choice.
  • 1,000 Ultimate Rewards points

Because each card has a $6.95 fee, your total profit would be $7.05 + 1,000 Ultimate Rewards points.

A sweet deal.

If you don’t yet have a Chase Ink card, you can get one now with an increased bonus. The normal bonuses on each of these cards has been increased by 10,000 points!

Ink Bold – 60,000 bonus points (normally 50,000)

Ink Plus – 60,000 bonus points (normally 50,000)

Ink Cash – 30,000 bonus points (normally 20,000)

If you were thinking about this card anyway, this might be a good time to pounce!

  1. I can confirm that Swagbucks does NOT pay out on gift card purchases.

Only the portion of my Staples purchase that included non-gift card items (in my case, a box of trash bags that I tossed in at the last minute) earned Swagbucks.

    1. Emily – Thanks for letting us know! I am going to look into this further. Anyone else have this experience?

  2. How difficult has it become to apply for one of these cards without an official business and just claiming to run an eBay sole-proprietorship? I’ve heard that Chase has recently become much more strict about the approval process for business cards.

    1. technotragic – Sorry, I don’t know the answer to that! I wouldn’t recommend applying for these cards unless you actually have a small business. However, as some businesses are TINY, if you really do have a business but don’t make much from it, you are still eligible to apply!

  3. Noooooo! I was just approved 2 days ago for this card at 50k points…I hope a call in to them will allow me to get in on it 🙁

  4. Kendra, this deal came around last year in July. I planned to switch cards (Bold to Plus) then but would consider doing it now (Bold MC to Bold Visa) if you dont think it will come around in a few months. Any intel?

    1. Heather – I don’t have any insider intel. However, this offer does seem to roll around every year or so.

  5. I will receive the 60k plus no annual fee after I complete the 5k spend!
All I did was tweet to them asking (Very nicely) to be moved to that new offer

  6. FYI. This same offer occurred last year between 6/12 and 6/22. So it was a bit more than 6 months.

    1. JW – I just noticed my response was inaccurate and changed it! Thanks for the edit.

  7. Husband has a teeny, tiny business, but we have a lot of money in the bank with Chase and they are usually generous with their cards. So I went in through your link and applied for a card for him. Didn’t get instant decision, but keeping my fingers crossed.

  8. Anne – I’m so glad you got in on this deal! The Ink is a great card to have, plus with your knowledge, you are going to get every last dime out of that 60K bonus!! 😉

  9. I have a sole proprietorship that is in the process of becoming an LLC in Texas. I applied for the Chase Bold, but I was not approved right away. I’m crossing my fingers that I will be approved.
