I am always on the lookout for a good Hertz offer, because Hertz points are a very valuable tool in my points and miles toolkit. You can get a free weekend rental day for 500 points, or a free week for 2,500 points. I use my Hertz points when cash rates are super high, or when I want to rent an SUV during ski season or when we are traveling with another family and need extra space.
You can join the Hertz Gold Plus Rewards program here. The program is free to join, and it is a great starting point to start stockpiling Hertz points. Normally, you earn one point per dollar (before taxes). With this current promo, you earn 3x points.
There are (of course!) a couple of tips that I would suggest if you are planning on taking part in this promotion.
Status match if possible
First, you should definitely try to leverage any other car rental status you have to do a status match with Hertz. (Tip: if you have the Amex Platinum card, you can get National Executive status as a cardmember benefit). Simply email Hertz (firstname.lastname@example.org) and ask for a match. Include a screen shot of your status with the competing company. I got matched to Hertz 5 Star, which provides:
- One-car-class upgrades
- 10% bonus on Hertz Gold Plus Rewards™ Points
- 600 Rewards Points after every 15 qualifying rentals
- Plus, all Gold member benefits
You can transfer points to your spouse or partner
Another tip is that you can transfer points to your spouse or domestic partner, as long as he/she is a Hertz Gold Plus Rewards member. Simply call the Rewards Desk (1-888-999-4900) during the hours of 0600-2100 CST Monday through Friday, and ask for a transfer of points.
I hope this promo fits in with some of your September travel plans!
