I’m feeling rejected by Twice.

A few days ago, I wrote about an amazing deal from Twice, which is a concierge-style online marketplace for secondhand fashion. With this deal, I was able to score a chic little cape from Theory for $5.

My luck continued when I found a Diane Von Furstenberg wrap dress that I LOVE. I was kind of on a Twice high for a few days. Their prices are really good, especially because they offer a bonanza of discounts and coupons to take their already-discounted prices down even further.

To feed my addiction to the site, I decided to sell a few pieces. I ordered a pre-paid bag from Twice (free!), then I filled it up with great stuff and mailed it off. I included some real treasures, so I was excited to see the offer they made me.

I actually exclaimed out loud when I got it. Not with excitement, but rather with shock: it was so low. Check it out.

I’m telling you that the pieces I sent were in very good condition. The “snags,” “staining,” and “overall wear” were a complete surprise to me, because I looked at each piece carefully before I placed it in the bag.

The bummer is that you have to either accept their offer completely, or request all your items back…and you have to pay for return shipping.

Sigh. I can confidently say that my infatuation with Twice is now officially over. And the mystery of how they are able to price items so low has been handily solved.

My advice: remain a shopper. Don’t become a seller. Stay on the positive side of the equation, because the deals from Twice keep coming.

Here are the deals they are currently offering:

1. You can take 40% off your first order. You should see this green pop-up below when you first head to the site. My suggestion is to stack this discount with a friend’s referral link to save an additional $10, then save another $10 when you download the Twice app. Here is my referral link if you’d like to use it to get started.

See this post for details…and be sure to read to comments for a way to possibly save even more on your first purchase.

2. If you’re confident about purchasing the items in your shopping cart, then you can apply a Final Sale coupon to take an additional discount off your order. To order my dress, I used FINALSALE30 for a 30% discount. Fantastic.

3. If you do decide to sell, if you do it now, you can earn an extra 30% in store credit (until July 31). Looks like I just missed this one, although it wouldn’t have made too much of a difference in my case.

Anyway, I think feel a little rejected by Twice. I’m going to stick with clothes swaps and Crossroads from now on.

Has anyone else tried selling with Twice? How did you make out? And if you haven’t tried Twice yet, are you going to take the plunge?

  1. Like Dia, might send in 1 item to get the bonus, but beyond that, it doesn’t make much sense to sell to them. I did see some cute things that I might buy from them though.

  2. wow that majorly stinks. I was planning on mailing them stuff too but never mind after your experience! I will go ahead and go shopping now though 😛

  3. thanks for sharing your experience, good to know! I hadn’t gotten around to trying yet and appreciate hearing how it went for you.

    I love clothes swaps!

  4. I wonder what they do with the “rejected” stuff…

I’m a little worried now that I read this post because I just sent off my first bag of clothing (16 items) to Twice yesterday. I scored on the deal you shared to purchase clothes from twice and I, like you, have been on a Twice high since then. I’m guessing I’ll take whatever they offer because I won’t pay to get my old clothes back, but it does make me skeptical about what they do with the rejects. Hopefully they donate them and don’t allow their employees just take home the rejects (that would make me super mad!).

I may give their customer service a call to see what they say. I carefully wrote down their “estimated value” of each item I sent so I would have a high/low idea of what to expect for each thing I sent. I’m wondering if they’ll be true to that or not. If not, I’ll be bummed because I opted to send them some nice stuff that I could have sold here locally if I knew they wouldn’t take it.

    1. Kristen – Your experience sounds just like mine! Hope yours has a different outcome, though. I am still really annoyed. I sent in two bags of clothes before I got the first offer, and the second offer was even worse than the first! I’d be interested to hear what your offer is. Please let us know if you have a minute once you get the offer.

  5. Watch out for thredUP also. I sent a HUGE bag of stuff their website said they would accept. 4 items accepted and offered 75% less than what my local consignment would have paid me. Same routine as Twice (wear, snags, stains, etc.). Which was garbage since one of the items they rejected on that basis was brand new and never worn.
