Making your home a haven.

Right about now (the end of January) is when I start daydreaming about long summer days, warm sandy beaches, and refreshing tropical drinks served in coconuts.

Doesn’t that sound so faraway, and so fabulous?

Since beach time is (sadly) not on my horizon anytime soon, I’m embracing the fact that the next-best thing is to cozy up here at home. Here are three things that I’m finding to be so delicious right now:

1. The only chocolate chip cookie recipe you will ever need for the rest of your life.

This recipe is life-changing. Not exaggerating. Try it.

These delicious cookies are best enjoyed straight out of the oven with a cold glass of milk while you are on the sofa, binge-watching your favorite show.

2. Palo Santo.

These sticks are like incense, but with a cedar-y, almost citrus-y smell.

We’ve been burning them in the evenings and they make our entire house smell sweet and clean – which is especially great in the winter when we can’t just fling the doors and windows open to fill our house with sunny, fresh air.

3. Bay leaf wreath

These are so fresh and aromatic.

Especially if you travel a lot for work, or if you commute to the office every day in the cold and the dark…when you’re home, it’s really great to be home.

Of course I’m always looking for more tips, so I’d love to know: how do you make your house feel cozy in the wintertime?

  1. Boogie boarding in the north shore winter waves. SUP or kayak up the river if the bay waters are too rough. Laying out by the pool on a warm winter day. Bubbly by the fireplace. These are a few of my favorite things. A bit different from the average mainlanders, but I assure you, still winter fun.

  2. You say you’re not heading anywhere warm soon but in your Presidential Suite post you said that it was a warm and beachy spot! Or did you book it for 2018??
Well, anyway…I go for a few candles and the tried and true shabby-chic-or-maybe-just-totally-uncool-now twinkle lights on the mantel and around windows.
