Portland Part Two – Eating, Drinking and Shopping

a bus and a table outside

I had an action-packed day with my friend Hottie on Saturday. We rode bikes, shot guns, and ate Viking food. It was going to be hard to top that action, so we didn’t even try. Instead, we took it down a couple notches and decided to eat, drink, and shop our way across the fair city of Portland.

Our first stop was the Screen Door. After an hour-long wait, we were ready to eat almost anything. Luckily, the menu here is incredible, so we were able to enjoy some really delicious food. We thought about getting the chicken and waffles, but after we saw the death-defying portion size, we opted for the more realistic and infinitely cuter chicken strips, with a waffle on the side. We also got other goodies: a biscuit, a salad, and, randomly, some pimiento cheese (don’t ask). It was all very yummy. Five stars and two thumbs up.

No longer fainting from hunger, we were now ready for some shopping, Portland-style. I was beyond excited to visit a place I had only dreamt about before, the Lodekka Double Decker Dress Shop. Seriously, how cute is this idea?

During a lovely conversation with Erin, the bus conductress, I shared that my style was Seventies Glam. When she told me that her current style was “Amy Poehler Equestrienne,” I knew she was cool. Check out this Seventies Glam outfit she helped me put together. The clutch was only FIVE DOLLARS. Can you believe it? I still can’t. And that chain belt! LOVING IT. The dress is vintage Calvin Klein. Still dying.

After such a score, I was done shopping for the day, but Hottie scooped up armloads of amazing bargains all over town. And then at a certain point, we just needed a drink. Since we had switched hotels and were staying at The Nines (kind of a letdown after the Vintage Plaza), we ran back up to our room, threw down our bags, and took a short elevator ride to Urban Farmer. They’ve got a great Happy Hour, and I love the ambiance.

One drink was not enough, so we took the elevator up to Departure. We did not like it. It felt like we were headed onto Space Mountain at Disneyland, and then somehow we landed in a bad seventies movie. The wood paneling and bright blue sofas went with my outfit, though, so we took a picture.

So yes – I had a great Portland weekend. Shout out to my friend Laura PDX! Can’t wait to visit again soon.

  1. I am glad you had a great time. I should have told you I always drink/eat on the balcony at departures lounge as it has a great view of the city from the roof. The bar area is just ok.
    Love the glam look.

  2. The only thing better than travel is……… travel and shopping. I love to come back with something new for the wardrobe.

Your description of yourself as 70s glam threw me. I had to then think of how I might classify my style. I finally decided I was classically feminine. I do love me a puff sleeve, bit of ruffle or polka dots.

    There…….I said it out loud.

    1. Anne – Succinct, clear style definition. I can see it! Ever since I defined my style I find that it is so much easier to shop. If it’s Seventies Glam, I know that it won’t just languish in my closet. BSD (Before Style Definition), I would buy pieces that I loved, but they just weren’t “me.” Now I know better 🙂

      1. That is a really good point that I never thought of. “Styles that you loved, but just weren’t you.” How often we have all done that.
