Tips on How To Sync and Save with Amex

While I don’t know anyone who doesn’t like to save money, I know plenty of people who get a “deer in the headlights” look if they have to click a link, enter a code, or fill out a form in order to do it. They claim it’s too confusing, there are too many steps involved, and that they can’t keep everything straight.

No more excuses, people. It’s time to save some cash!

For those of you who have been avoiding Amex’s Sync Promo (formerly known as “Link, Like, Love”), this is a detailed description of how to get started. I’m going to break it down for you so you can sync like a pro and save some dough 🙂

What is Amex Sync?

Amex Sync is a promotion between Amex and three social media sites (Facebook, Twitter, and Foursquare). If you’ve got an Amex card, you can link it to your Facebook, Twitter, or Foursquare account to receive special deals and discounts. These deals can be pretty lucrative, so you might be leaving a nice little chunk of money on the table if you don’t have a synced card.

Any Amex card can be synced. However, Corporate Cards and Prepaid Cards (such as American Express® Gift Cards and Serve® Cards) are not eligible.

What happens after I sync my card?

Once your card is linked, Amex will offer you deals that show up on your social media account. The deals are always free. Once you accept a deal, you don’t need to pre-purchase anything, print out a coupon, or show anything at the point of sale. All you need to do is use your synced Amex card when you buy the item. Then you’ll get a statement credit from Amex.

What? I still don’t get it.

Let’s walk through an example.

1. Sync your card. All you need is some basic info: your name, your email address, and your Amex card number.

 2. Once your card is synced, a variety of offers will appear. Simply click on the “Get Offer” button to load the deal onto your synced Amex card.

3. You can load as many offers onto your card as you want.

4. When you make your purchase, make sure to use your synced Amex card.

5. The deal won’t show up on your receipt when you make the purchase; instead, you will get a statement credit from Amex in the amount of the deal.

Pro Tips

  • You can only sync one card per account.
  • If you’ve got multiple accounts, you can use all of them. (For example, you can sync your Platinum card to one Twitter account and your SPG card to another Twitter account).
  • If you’ve got a lot of Amex cards, you might want to make some notes on which card you sync to which account, or it gets confusing. Trust me.

Have you scored any great deals by syncing your card? Have any more tips to share?

  1. Thanks for breaking it down for us deer-in-headlight folks, as always! Do you know how privacy settings work? Is it easy to make sure nothing appears in your Facebook feed, for example? I find that these kinds of deals often allow you to not post on your wall, but that doesn’t exclude it from being in news feeds. I mean, they WANT this stuff to show up so when we sign up, we automatically do some social media marketing for them. I don’t blame them for that, as nothing is REALLY free, right? But still, it’s almost always vague and the deals aren’t always worth it to me.

    1. pinkisnice – I have “alter ego” Facebook and Twitter accounts that I use for these kinds of things. Works great!
