3 ways to get a discount on a Hyatt stay…including 1 you might not know about yet!
There has been a lot of excitement lately over Hyatt’s recent changes to their Gold Passport program. The two main thrills have been the addition of both a Cash+Points rate and a nicely-discounted “My Elite Rate.” I’ve happily booked a couple of upcoming stays using these fun new features, but I realized that many people likely don’t have access to these discounts, so I wanted to share all the strategies I know for saving cash and stacking discounts with Hyatt. Hopefully at least one will apply to you.
I’ll start with the one that you might not know about yet.
Method #1: Purchase discount gift cards via Cardpool
Total discount: 6.5%
Good for people who: don’t have status with Hyatt, an Amex OPEN card, or access to discount gift cards via a Milepoint membership.
Stacks with: AAA rate, Corporate rates
This is an easy two-minute process. Go to TopCashBack for 2% cash back, then navigate to Cardpool. Search for Hyatt gift cards. Purchase at a 4.5% discount.
Method #2: Use the “My Elite Rate” discount
Total Discount: 20%
Good for people who: are Gold Passport Platinum and Diamond members.
Stacks with: gift cards. Just use a gift card to pay when you check out at the hotel.
The “My Elite Rate” discount will only show up if you have Platinum or Diamond status.
Method #3: Get a credit from Amex when you use your OPEN card.
Total discount: 5%
Good for people who: have an Amex OPEN card (a business card from Amex)
Stacks with: My Elite Rate, AAA rate, Corporate rates
If you’ve got an Amex OPEN card (a business credit card from Amex), then you can get a 5% discount credited to your American Express statement for each eligible dollar spent at participating Hyatt Hotels & Resorts in the U.S.

Currently members of Lifetime Fitness can buy 10% off Gift Cards. This offer does not stack with Open since cards are from Lifetime not Hyatt. I am waiting to see if this stacks with the Citi Dividend Platinum Select 1st Quarter Gym 5% – I think not likely but TBD.
Hyatt was offering 10% discount on gift cards last month.
Also Milepoint offered 10% discount on Hyatt gift cards for premium members (membership has sold out now).
Personally I don’t trust TopCashBack. But Ebates offers 2% back.
In summary, I’d book reservation via Ebates link, selecting elite rate and pay with a gift card.
Suppose the standard rate is $100, Elite rate is $80, get $1.60 back via Ebates, paying with $80 gift card, which would cost me $72. My final cost is 70.40.
So my final saving is 29.6%.
Don’t forget to book stays through a cashback portal!
I am Platinum but have yet to ever see the “My Elite Rate” tab ever appear for any hotel query I’ve done in the past 6 months. Ever. Can you explain why this is true despite the supposed elite rate availability/

Bill – That is strange. I would call Hyatt to see if there is something weird going on with your account. I’ve seen the “My Elite Rate” for literally every hotel I’ve looked at. Maybe it’s a glitch in the system (with your account) that can be easily fixed?
