American Airlines goodies: free miles, free upgrades, half a free flight.

By now you’ve probably heard about the American Airlines AAdvantage Passport Challenge promo on Facebook. In case you haven’t, it takes about 10 minutes to earn an easy little windfall of miles (I earned 1,015).

There is also another lucrative offer floating around right now where you can earn a free upgrade on American, or get half the way to a free domestic (economy) flight! Here are the details…

How to get free miles.

To earn miles, you need to play the Passport Challenge game on Facebook.

I earned a total of 1,015 miles (I always use my “alternate” Facebook account for these types of promos because I don’t want to spam anyone! See my lovely photo at the top?)

In the game, there are different ways to get “passport stamps,” which are worth various amounts.

You can actually earn over 10,000 miles by playing this game, but the bigger payouts are for butt-in-seat flying. 😉

If you are still reading this, you are likely enrolled in the American Airlines AAdvantage loyalty (frequent flyer) program. However, what you may not know is that American Airlines operates another loyalty program called Business Extra. This is a program for small business owners. It’s free to join, and you can simultaneously earn miles in the AAdvantage program and credits in the Business Extra program.

The Business Extra program has a promo going on right now (until March 31, 2014) where you can earn 1,000 points just for enrolling! This is a great deal, because:

650 Business Extra points can be redeemed for a flight upgrade within North America, Hawaii and the Caribbean.

For 2,000 points, you can get a free economy flight within North America….so 1,000 points is halfway there!

You can see all of the possible awards here.

To get the 1,000 points, you do need to be referred by a current member who was targeted for the promo. I have a good friend who still has a few referrals to give out, so please email me (kendra@pointsandpixiedust.com) if you are interested and I can connect you. You can also check out this FlyerTalk thread to find someone to give you a referral. (Update – all of my friend’s referral’s are spoken for at this point, but if you need one, or want one, please feel free to leave a message in the comments section below! Don’t leave your email address – I will go down the list in order and connect you when someone offers a referral. At this point, you would probably have more luck on the Flyertalk thread, however!)

Once you are a member, there are other benefits and discounts as well.

I love these easy promos! Thanks, American!

  1. Hi,

Thanks for this. I’ve already signed up for the business extra promotion using a friend’s link – do you know what fare buckets are eligible to upgrade using business extra points? Any chance you can use them to upgrade an existing avios or milesaver award? Thanks.

  2. I would like a referral if anyone has any extra. I’ve also heard that at least two (three?) entries can be redeemed for the admirals club.

      1. No, but I keep waiting for it to show up, especially since I have a long-haul flight this weekend 🙂

    1. Erik – I’ve connected you to the first two responders (Sean and Paul). Please let me know if you have more referrals and I will make more connections!

  3. I could use a referral to help a little bit for my daughter who goes to college in the west coast. Thanks!

  4. Elemenopee and Kathy – I just connected you.

Rings – You are on the list! I suggest trying Flyertalk as well!
