Mix it up, people.

To me, this hobby of points and miles collecting is about more than getting a free upgrade or traveling for pennies on the dollar. It’s about a lifestyle: the high-low blend. The blend is a way to enjoy luxury for less, in all areas of your life. And it’s a way to keep life interesting: break some “rules!”

Drink an expensive wine while you snack on potato chips. Fly in first class (for free, on points!) on your way to backpack through India. Pair your Manolos with that t-shirt from Target.

Mix it up, people! It’s just more fun that way.

As you can imagine, I’m a huge thrift store shopper. My friends and I have found some insane pieces at Thrift Town. Mari found a pair of Chloe boots for $15. Emma found a Chanel Suit for $60. I found a Diane Von Furstenberg wrap dress for $5.

The cutest dress for two bucks!

Thrift shops are a fantastic place to hone your style and scoop up insane bargains. At a thrift shop, you can really enjoy fashion: everything is so inexpensive that you can easily afford to play around with new styles or patterns. Thifting is also about the “thrill of the find” because you’ve got to have motivation and patience to dig. The hunt is always worth it.

Today my friend Chrissy found not one but two brand new Orla Kiely bags for $15 each. These normally sell for around $175 each, so score!

Anyone else a fan of the high/low blend?

  1. Well this is a little embarrassing to admit, but, while husband and I are travel greedy and I would sell my very soul for a new outfit, neither one of us is very adventurous with food. We travel all over the world but we frequently grab lunch in a fast food restaurant. It is mostly not important to us what we eat, so we eat cheaply.

Now occasionally we (or me actually) want to try the food of a region, but it is hard to know where to go in a strange city and often the resulting outing is disappointing. I realize if we were real foodies we would devote more time and money to this, but we aren’t.

In fact we are teased by one of our friends. We tell him we’re planning a trip and he tells us there are no Costco food courts in that city. We are who we are.

  2. I like this post . The pics are adorable and your hairstyle is beyond cute! Definetly a fan of the high/low mix but I have not been very lucky with Thrift store finds. 🙁 I do much better at estate sales and bidding on eBay. Most of my house is furnished with 60’s and 70’s furnishings which I live with for a while and sell for a profit once I tire of it. The profit funds my vintage addiction !
