Rocketmiles finally got me…and I got at least 4,000 United miles.

A few weeks ago, I got an invitation to the Disney Social Media Moms conference in Phoenix. Since the invite, I’ve been really looking forward to the trip, for many reasons. I was also thrilled that my trip was going to be very affordable, thanks to a few different points and miles redemptions and strategies, one of which was booking a hotel room with TravelPony.

However, I kept having a feeling that maybe my hotel choice wasn’t ideal. The host hotel for the conference is the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess, which is a good 20-minute drive from the hotel I had chosen. However, I had gotten such a good deal on TravelPony that I hesitated to change my plans…but I kept wondering if that was a good decision.

I just couldn’t make up my mind. Finally, a couple of days ago, I was inspired to make a change. My motivation? A Rocketmiles promotion.

As a first-time purchaser, I would get 3,000 bonus miles from the promotion, plus the usual 1,000 miles from booking the Fairmont Scottsdale through Rocketmiles.

Currently my account is showing that I will also get 1,000 miles from using a friend’s referral link, but I’m not sure if that is the case. We will see.

I’ve never used Rocketmiles before, mainly because I’ve focused on award stays, with the occasional TravelPony cheapie thrown in. However, under the circumstances (Rocketmiles was offering the hotel I wanted, at a comparable price to other sites, plus the 4,000 or 5,000 mile bonus), I decided to give them a shot.

If you’ve got a similar situation coming up and you want to take advantage of this promo as well, here’s how to get it:

  1. Make sure you are a member of AwardWallet.
  2. Sign up for a Rocketmiles account. If you sign up using my link, we each get 1,000 miles after you complete your first stay.
  3. Click here to sign up for the Rocketmiles promotion.

Here are some more details about the promo:

  • This offer is strictly limited to new Rocketmiles customers only.
  • To be eligible for this promotion, the hotel reservation must be booked with Rocketmiles using this promotional link (www.rocketmiles.com/awardwallet-3k) before 11:59PM CT on 4 July 2014.
  • Limit one per customer.
  • Limit one per stay.
  • Promotional offer cannot be applied to existing bookings or retroactively applied to bookings not made using the link above.
  • This promotional offer cannot be combined with any other offers, including a sign-up from referral bonus.
  • Rocketmiles reserves the right to retract a bonus at any time if it detects technical errors, cancel/rebooking activity (defined by identical search criteria), or any deceptive behavior attempted to circumvent the limits expressed above including multiple accounts.
  • If Rocketmiles is not contacted directly with a refund request until after miles/points have already been posted, any approved refund amount may be reduced by up to the full retail value of the reward. Rewards that cannot be posted due to incorrect or incomplete information may become ineligible after 12 months and no customer response to our e-mail outreach.
  • Rocketmiles reserves the right to change these terms or end the promotion early.
  • See www.rocketmiles.com/terms for full terms, or call Rocketmiles concierges at 1-855-355-7625 with questions of eligibility or for any other assistance.

What do you think? Have you used Rocketmiles yet? Does this promo come at a good time for you?

Note that this post contains referral links. If you use them, thank you!

  1. Since you are benefiting from the 3000 miles first stay bonus, you will see that your 1000 miles sign up bonus will go away, just like that, with no notice.
Per my discussions with the Rocketmiles Concierge, promotions are not stackable and you will only benefit from the most advantageous one.
Can you please let me know what happens ? I’m interested since I encountered the same issue.

  2. I’ve used rocket miles. On my instance I earned 9000 points plus 3000 first time booking bonus for booking the Shangri-La Oman. It was perfect since Shangri-La only offered a flat 500 points per stay otherwise.

Points posted without issue. I’d use them again for stays outside of my top tier status programs.

  3. Kendra,

I’m in Phoenix right now. I just wanted to prepare you weather wise. Picture an oven after you have just baked a cake, now open it up and pretend a fan is emptying all that hot air on you.

Lucky for us we really love the people we’re visiting. ๐Ÿ˜€

  4. Last week I had a 5,000 Rocket Mile bonus eMail (kept watching for it after seeing it mentioned on Loyalty Lobby). Since I’d been registered for quite a while on Rocket Miles, but never made a first booking, I thought it would be a great time to try it out.
We’d already been planning a 2-night stay at an inexpensive Hawthorn Suites in FL, while traveling next winter, and Rocket Miles’ pre-paid rate was the same as everywhere else including TP, Wyndham, etc., it was a no-brainer! 7,000 United Miles for the 2 night stay (and a total of $142 + tax). (And we know we MUST be at that location on those days.) Beats flying with UA to earn those miles (with the new formula they’re rolling out, I’d have to spend $1400….no status you only earn 5 miles per dollar). YAY!

    1. Sharon – I wish I had pounced on the 5,000 mile offer. The saying “she who hesitates is lost” comes to mind. ๐Ÿ˜‰
