A great deal, a fun date, or a pantry full of peanut butter.
A few weeks ago, I wrote about a deal from a dating and relationships company called How About We. In my post, I described how you could use the $50 credit for new members to purchase an “at home date” that could turn out to be a super value.
They’ve actually got a bunch of interesting-looking “Going Out” dates as well, such as a Woodcut Map Class, Flying Trapeze Lessons, or a Private Chef’s Table at an incredible restaurant. (Note that the “Going Out” dates are only available in certain cities).
However, if you are looking to maximize the deal factor, the key is to select a date from their “Staying In” collection (and these are available nationwide). A few weeks ago, I purchased a BBQ meal for four that was delivered to my doorstep; my total cost (after applying the $50 new member credit) was $11. It was delicious.
Recently, a friend of mine ordered the Peanut Butter and Company sandwich-making kit. She had a $50 credit and figured she would use it on something she would have bought anyway. Look at the massive amount of peanut butter they sent her! (Not sure if this amount is typical, but she was thrilled). She ended up giving me half of it. They also included three jars of jelly, a book, and a few other goodies. Because of the $50 credit, she got it all for free!
I just think this is an incredible deal. I’m not sure how much longer they are going to offer the $50 credit, so if this site piques your interest, you might want to sign up sooner rather than later.
My next choice is going to be a Luke’s Local meal box. This is showing up as a free date for me (once you are a member, you get one free date each month). The box will be delivered to my doorstep, and includes a Jablow’s dinner cut, seasonal vegetable selection, cooking staples, a pantry item, flowers, veggies and dip, an artisan snack, and shrubs from Bar Jars.
Things to know:
• If you decide to sign up, your first month is free, then afterwards you pay a monthly charge of $18/month. I was planning on canceling, but the service has actually ended up being fun (plus it’s a fantastic value), so I ended up sticking around.
• If you are single, make sure to sign up for the Couples section anyway, because that is where all the dates and deals are. Not sure why they think that single people don’t like dates and deals as well (?!).
• If you sign up using my link, you will get a $50 credit, and I will get a credit as well. Thanks!
How about you? Would you try How About We?
I can’t find any “at home dates” … am I doing something wrong?
Eric – If you go to “Collections” at the header on the top of the page, then click “Staying In,” you should be able to see the at-home dates.
Hope that helps!
when i click on collections, there is no “staying in”option – just gifts for 2, members only, under $25, family friendly, and tickets for two.
Mary Elizabeth – If you switch your home city to a different location, I wonder if the “Staying In” option would show up?
same here, no staying in option
Ah, I changed my zip code and yes, now I see staying in options
what zip code are you using? I changed mine and still don’t get the staying in option
Eric – Try 94111
I tried to use the link last time you posted about this, and it didn’t work. I tried again today, and even just went directly to the website without using your link– no luck. It is all grayed out. I know someone else was having the same problem last time, but I never heard whether or not he was able to get it resolved. I just emailed them, and will let you know if I find anything out.
Tina – Please do let me know. That is weird!
Here’s the answer (it worked!):
We’ve found that HowAboutWe works best in Safari or Chrome. If you are using an older version of Firefox or Internet Explorer, you will need to upgrade your version. Hopefully that will resolve your issue. If not, please let me know.
Tina – Thank you!!
how do I get/apply the $50 credit?
If you applied through my link, you should see the $50 credit details in the application screen – or in the welcome email they sent you. Also, when you look at the available dates, the cost should be discounted accordingly.
ok I see it now, I had to click the link n the email, didn’t show up on the website immediately. Now I see the dates with the discounted rates
at what point in checkout does it show the $50 credit? I’m at a checkout screen where it says “confirm” at the bottom and still don’t see a discount…
I had to click the link that came in the email after signing up to get the credit to show on my account
Eric – Did you figure this out? Let me know if you didn’t and I will try to help!
Update: Just got my PB&J date box!! I got 8 jars of assorted PB (they advertised that 3 came so this was a fabulous surprise), 3 jars of jelly, and the totes/spreader/cookbook. Really excited I must say!!! Thanks for the tip on this.
Rebecca – Thanks for the update! So glad you scored!
