Kauai Sunshine: A Waterfall, A Pineapple, A Kayak, And Us
My cousin (code name Sunshine) lives in Kauai. The highlight of our vacation so far was the night we spent at her house on Kalihiwai beach.
We packed a lot of adventure into 48 hours. We hiked to Queen’s Bath, which is a tide pool about the size of a swimming pool.
We also kayaked down the river and hiked in to a gorgeous waterfall, where we swam in the refreshing natural pool.
We paddleboarded and kayaked on the lagoon next to the beach, which is directly outside Sunshine’s front door (!)
And of course we played in the ocean.
Sunshine also harvested the first pineapple from a plant she’s been cultivating for two years.
It was delicious!
It was tough to leave Sunshine’s place. We all decided that we need to return for a visit SOON. We loved the relaxed, natural vibe, and preferred it so much to the resort experience we had at the beginning of our vacation. Just another reminder that a vacation is ten million times better when you are able to connect with a local friend.
Mahalo, Sunshine.
Makes me want to visit Sunshine too! Maybe we should scrap New Orleans for Hawaii?
Ginger – Aloha! Great idea 😉
Aloha! Can’t go wrong with Hawaii, that would be awesome for a girls visit. Esp if we catch the $300 specials – not sure of points but great cash fare. There’s so much to do, with a low level of touristy fanfare. Thanks for the visit Pixie and fam!
Our family of six will be arriving in Kauai on July 31. Our first time and we are so excited. Any specifics around the adventures you did and would do again would be appreciated. Which river did you Kayak where did you being your hike to the falls etc.?
thanks in advance
Hi Scott – How exciting! I’m going to send you an email with a few more specifics. Hope you have a great trip!
The scenery is so beautiful. Can I come along with you and Ginger?? LOL.
ElleX – Only if you promise to act like a wild mom on the loose! 😉
